Du Grappin – Nature, Beaujolais Villages, 2017, France (Gamay)
Imagine a big, burly Australian with a laugh that lights up a thousand rooms and you have Le Grappin’s Andrew Nielsen. Andrew came from a publishing background before turning his attention to wine, and has worked with some of the greats in California, Central Otago in New Zealand and Burgundy in France. Andrew works alongside his wife Emma, and the pair have been making waves with their gently made wines, whose grapes come from overlooked, but classic regions in Burgundy, Beaujolais and the Rhone.
‘Nature’ is a perfect example, hailing from one of Beaujolais’ up and coming villages, Lancié. Made from old vines and with minimal intervention, this wine is as natural as they come, but with freshness and drinkability aplenty.
